A new feature in the next iPhone software is going to shock people — it surprised even Apple's CEO
And when everyone gets access to iOS 12 this fall, it's going to surprise millions of people.
Tucked into the updated iPhone settings menu is a new collection of features called Screen Time. It collects data on how many times you use your phone and how many times you pick it up. It also includes statistics on which apps you use most, and how many notifications you receive. Reader, I was shocked. This week, I picked up my phone about 248 times per day on average. I use my phone for so many hours on a daily basis I'm embarrassed to share the exact number, but it's upwards of 5 hours.
Before I looked at these stats, I didn't think I had a phone problem. I've actively tried to limit notifications, and I try really hard not to check my phone during meetings or conversations, so I'm not being rude to people around me.
I'm still not sure if I have a phone problem, but I may simply be in denial. The fact is that I'm using my phone for a huge number of my waking hours — a way higher percentage than I would have guessed without these stats.
Not alone
I'm not alone in being surprised at the statistics in Apple's Screen Time feature. At Apple's annual developer conference, which took place in San Jose, California earlier this month, hundreds of software engineers downloaded and installed the beta version of iOS with Screen Time, and many of them were surprised too.
The Screen Time feature was a common topic of conversation among the people who had travelled to California to learn how to best make software for Apple computers. But like myself, many attendees who would discuss phone overuse in general were also hesitant to share their official stats, as if they were an embarrassing secret.
Even Apple's CEO, Tim Cook, said that the numbers surprised him.
"I've been using it and I have to tell you: I thought I was fairly disciplined about this. And I was wrong," Cook said in an interview with CNN. "When I began to get the data, I found I was spending a lot more time than I should."
Which apps was he using the most?
"I don't want to give you all the apps. But too much. And the number of times I picked up the phone were too many," Cook continued. "I also found the number of notifications I was getting just didn't make sense anymore. You know, Notifications started out as something to tell you about something really important happening. And all too often now, it's like everything is important."
According to Cook, though, Apple isn't worried that giving this information to users could impact Apple's business.

Do You Spend Time On Your Phone Playing Pokemon GO?
Pokémon GO. Travel between the real world and the virtual
world of Pokémon with Pokémon GO for iPhone and
Android devices. With Pokémon GO, you'll discover
Pokémon in a whole new world—your own! Pokémon
GO gives
you the chance to explore real locations and search far and wide for Pokémon.
More and more ...
The
Pokemon GO app has been praised for getting users outside, walking and
exploring communities. However, possible eye health risks could be associated
with lots of time spent staring at a mobile device — beyond accidentally
walking into things!
While more research is
needed to determine if prolonged digital device use causes permanent damage to
the eyes, many eye doctors are concerned about the effects of blue (HEV) light
emitted from digital devices. Animal studies have shown that exposure to high
levels of HEV light can damage tissue in the retina, possibly leading to
conditions like macular degeneration.
In addition to potential damage from blue light,
Pokemon GO players could experience digital eye strain while playing for long
periods of time. Reports say that individuals are using the app for an average
of more than 43 minutes a day.
Players should follow the
"20-20-20" rule: take a break every 20 minutes and look at something
20 feet away for at least 20 seconds. This exercise helps relieve digital eye
strain, which can cause dry or irritated eyes, blurred vision and more.

DESKTOP/LAPTOP USER CARE
DESKTOP/LAPTOP USER
CARE
Adjusting the display settings of your computer
can help reduce eye strain and fatigue. Generally, these adjustments are
beneficial:
· Brightness. Adjust the brightness of the display so
it's approximately the same as the brightness of your surrounding workstation.
As a test, look at the white background of this Web page. If it looks like a
light source, it's too bright. If it seems dull and gray, it may be too dark.
· Text size and contrast. Adjust the text size and contrast
for comfort, especially when reading or composing long documents. Usually,
black print on a white background is the best combination for comfort.
· Color temperature. This is a technical term used to describe
the spectrum of visible light emitted by a color display. BLUE LIGHT is
short-wavelength visible light that is associated with more eye strain than
longer wavelength hues, such as orange and red. Reducing the color temperature
of your display lowers the amount of blue light emitted by a color display for
better long-term viewing comfort.
For computers
running on a Microsoft Windows operating system, display settings can be
adjusted in Control Panel. For an Apple computer, display settings are found in
Systems Preferences (in the Applications folder in Finder).
In some
cases, the color temperature of a desktop computer monitor is adjusted on the
display itself.
Text Size and Color on
Your Digital Screen
To
avoid eye strain, at what size should your computer display text? According to
computer vision syndrome expert , it should be three times the smallest
size that you can read from your normal viewing position.
The best color
combination for your eyes is black text on a white background, though other
dark-on-light combinations also work well.
If you use Windows 7,
you can adjust text size and color by going to the Start menu, opening the
Control Panel and choosing Display. Here you can also adjust your screen's
resolution and brightness, for best visual comfort.
You can adjust text size
when using Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari and other browsers, too. For
example, in Firefox, you can enlarge an entire webpage by using the keyboard
command Ctrl + as many times as you want, while Ctrl 0 makes everything
normal-sized again. (Ctrl - makes everything smaller.) To enlarge only the
text, use Alt V, then Z, then T. Then use Ctrl + again, and you'll see just the
text enlarging.
Each browser and email
program has different commands for adjusting text size, so look through the
menus to learn what they are. Or visit Google and search for how-tos there.
Many smartphones let you
adjust text size. For example, on the iPhone 4, you simply open the Settings
menu, then choose General, then Accessibility, then Large Text. Here you can
choose a new font size for core applications such as Mail, Notes and Calendar.
The font will also display in certain third-party applications.
Whatever
type of digital screen you're using, you'll enjoy it more if you make the
effort to adjust the view for your visual comfort. Don't know how? Check the
manufacturer's website or look it up on Google. — L.S.
.Blink more often.
Blinking is
very important when working at a computer; blinking moistens your eyes to
prevent dryness and irritation.
When working
at a computer, people blink less frequently — about one-third as often as they
normally do — and many blinks performed during computer work are only partial
lid closures, according to studies.
Tears
coating the EYE evaporate more rapidly during long non-blinking
phases and this can cause DRY EYE . Also, the air in many office
environments is dry, which can increase how quickly your tears evaporate,
placing you at greater risk for dry eye problems.
If
you experience dry eye symptoms, ask your eye doctor about ARTIFICAL
TEARS for use during the day.
By
the way, don't confuse LUBRICATING EYE DROPS with the drops
formulated to "get the red out." The latter can indeed make your eyes
look better — they contain ingredients that reduce the size of blood vessels on
the surface of your eyes to "whiten" them. But they are not
necessarily formulated to reduce dryness and irritation.
To
reduce your risk of DRY EYE DURING COMPUTER, try this exercise: Every 20
minutes, blink 10 times by closing your eyes as if falling asleep (very
slowly). This will help rewet your eyes.

TOP MOST USED TORRENTSITE
Top ten torrent site
1. THE PIRATE BAY
The Pirate Bay
is the “king of torrents” once again and also the oldest site in this list. The
past year has been relatively quiet for the notorious torrent site, which is
currently operating from its original .org domain name.
2. RARBG
RARBG,
which started out as a Bulgarian tracker, has captured the hearts and minds of
many video pirates. The site was founded in 2008 and specializes in high
quality video releases.
3. 1337X
1337x
continues where it left off last year. The site gained a lot of traffic and,
unlike some other sites in the list, has a dedicated group of up loaders that
provide fresh content.
4. TORRENTZ2
Torrentz2
launched as a stand-in for the original Torrentz.eu site, which voluntarily
closed its doors in 2016. At the time of writing, the site only lists torrent
hashes and no longer any links to external torrent sites. While browser add-ons
and plugins still make the site functional, its future is uncertain.
5. YTS.AG
YTS.ag
is the unofficial successors of the defunct YTS or YIFY group. Not all other
torrent sites were happy that the site hijacked the popuar brand and several
are actively banning its releases.
6. EZTV.AG
The
original TV-torrent distribution group EZTV shut down after a hostile takeover
in 2015, with new owners claiming ownership of the brand. The new group
currently operates from EZTV.ag and releases its own torrents. These releases
are banned on some other torrent sites due to this controversial history.
7. LIMETORRENTS
Limetorrents
has been an established torrent site for more than half a decade. The site’s
operator also runs the torrent cache iTorrents, which is used by several other
torrent search engines.
8. NYAA.SI
NYAA.si
is a popular resurrection of the anime torrent site NYAA, which shut down last
year. Previously we left anime-oriented sites out of the list, but since we
also include dedicated TV and movie sites, we decided that a mention is more
than warranted.
9. TORRENTS.ME
Torrents.me
is one of the torrent sites that enjoyed a meteoric rise in traffic this year.
It’s a meta-search engine that links to torrent files and magnet links from other
torrent sites.
10. ZOOQLE
Zooqle,
which boasts nearly three million verified torrents, has stayed under the radar
for years but has still kept growing. The site made it into the top 10 for the
first time this year.
one more
IDOPE: The special 10.1 mention goes to iDope.
Launched in 2016, the site is a relative newcomer to the torrent scene. The
torrent indexer has steadily increased its audience over the past year. With
similar traffic numbers to Zooqle, a listing is therefore warranted.

Google Chrome tips 2018
Know
your keyboard shortcuts
Like any good browser, Google Chrome has several dozen different
keyboard shortcuts that can help improve your productivity. Below is just a few
of our top favorites.
Ctrl + 1-8 = Pressing Ctrl and
any number 1 through 8 will move to the corresponding tab in your tab bar.
Ctrl + 9 = Switch to the last tab.
Ctrl + H = Show history
Ctrl + J = Open Downloads window
Ctrl + K = Move the cursor to the Omnibox (address bar)
Ctrl + T = Open a new tab
Ctrl + 9 = Switch to the last tab.
Ctrl + H = Show history
Ctrl + J = Open Downloads window
Ctrl + K = Move the cursor to the Omnibox (address bar)
Ctrl + T = Open a new tab
Use the Omnibox to do more than just search
The Google Omnibox does more than displaying the URL and allowing
you to search. It is also capable of performing mathematical calculations (as
shown in the picture) and even answer questions such as "how many cups are
in 2 liters?" Try adding any math calculation now in the Omnibox without
pressing enter to have the results shown.
Sync Chrome with your Google account
Chrome allows you to sync your
settings, passwords, and bookmarks to your Google account. This is a great
feature for anyone who switches computers (e.g. work computer and home
computer) and needs access to all their bookmarks and account settings. You can
log into your Google Account and adjust your sync settings by going into Settings under
the "wrench" or "Menu" icon.
Pin your frequently used tabs
Pin your favorite tabs to save space on
your tab bar without losing quick access to your favorite pages. In the above
picture, you can see we have eight pinned tabs, which would have normally consumed
our tab bar.
To Pin a tab right-click on any open tab and
click Pin Tab.
Bonus tip: You can also
click-and-drag a pinned tab to the position of your choice.
Use the Autofill feature
Use the Chrome Autofill feature for automatically
filling out any online form with common fields such as your name, e-mail,
address, etc. To enter the Autofill values follow the below steps.
1. Click on the "wrench" or
"Menu" icon in the top right corner.
2. Click Settings
3. At the bottom of Settings, click Show advanced
settings...
4. Click Manage Autofill settings under Passwords
and forms.
5. In the Autofill settings window, click the Add new
street address button.
6. Fill out all address settings you wish to be saved and click ok.
7. Once complete try out your Autofill using the below form. To
enter the values click on any of the below fields and select the name of your
Autofill.
Resize text boxes
Chrome gives you the ability to resize any text field. This can
be extremely useful for when you're filling out a form that doesn't seem big
enough for all the information you're entering. To resize the text field
click-and-drag the bottom right corner of the box. Below is a text field that
can be used as an
example.\
Use the Chrome Task manager
Since each open tab runs it its own sandbox to help with browser
stability, it can be difficult to see the overall system resources being used.
For example, in the Windows Task Manager you will see multiple instances of
Google Chrome running for each open tab.
Use the Chrome Task manager to show you how much memory and CPU
resources each open tab and extension you have installed is using. To open the
Task manager press Shift + Esc or Click on the
"wrench"
or
"Menu"
icon
in the top right corner, click Tools, and then Task manager.
If you want to get real geeky click the stats for nerds click
at the bottom of the Task manager.

Quickly close a tab
Any tab can be closed by clicking on the x on the tab. However,
there are much quicker ways to close a tab. For example, if you have a mouse
with a wheel pushing in on the wheel anywhere on the tab will close the tab.
The shortcut keys Ctrl + W or Ctrl + F4 will
also close the current open tab.
Bonus tip: Middle-clicking on
any link will also open that link in a new tab.
Use Chrome commands
Use the chrome:// commands to access many hidden features of
Chrome. There is a few dozen of these commands available that will allow you to
do everything from viewing DNSinformation, GPU information,
look for conflicts, setting flags, and much more. A listing of these commands
can be accessed by typing chrome://chrome-urls in the Omnibox.
Install Extensions
No Internet browser will have every feature you want, therefore
we suggest visiting theGoogle Chrome Webstore to install free
extensions for your browser. Today, there are thousands of available
extensions, games, and other add-ons that can be installed into your browser.
